12TH ANNUAL PRIX GALIEN USA AWARDS CEREMONY, 9TH ANNUAL GALIEN FORUM, AND 2018 PRIX GALIEN PRESIDENT’S DINNER

The Prix Galien recognizes outstanding innovation to improve the human condition by means of biomedical research.  It is considered the industry’s equivalent of the Nobel Prize, the highest accolade for biomedical research and development.  The annual Galien Forum is a meeting-of-the minds at which pressing issues are debated by front-runners in industry, academia and government. As The Pershing Square Foundation is a supporter of the event, this is a special opportunity for recipients of the Pershing Square Sohn Prize for Young Investigators in Cancer Research to spend time with such leaders.

Four Pershing Square Sohn Prize winners and two Scientific Review Council members attended this year’s Forum at the Alexandria Center for Life Science in New York City, among other guests which included individuals from life science foundations, academia, industry, and business. The event featured talks by executives from the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical industries, as well as top academics and government representatives.  Following the Forum, PSSCRA’s Executive Director, a Scientific Review Council member, and a Prize winner were invited to attend the Prix Galien Awards Ceremony at the American Museum of Natural History.

An exclusive President’s Dinner was held at the French Consulate the evening before the Forum, hosted by Anne Claire Legendre, Consul General of France in New York, and Susan Desmond-Hellmann, MD, Galien Awards Committee Chair and CEO of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Invitations to the Prix Galien events annually is one of the benefits the Pershing Square Sohn Cancer Research Alliance offers its grantees and partners, as part of the Alliance’s mission to help bridge the gap between academia and industry in accelerating cures and treatments for cancer.
