11TH ANNUAL PRIX GALIEN USA AWARDS CEREMONY, 8TH ANNUAL GALIEN FORUM, AND 2017 PRIX GALIEN PRESIDENT’S DINNER

The Prix Galien recognizes outstanding innovation to improve the human condition by means of biomedical research.  It is considered the industry’s equivalent of the Nobel Peace Prize, the highest accolade for biomedical research and development.  The annual Galien Forum is a meeting-of-the minds at which pressing issues are debated by front-runners in industry, academia and government. As The Pershing Square Foundation is a supporter of the event, this is a unique opportunity for recipients of the Pershing Square Sohn Prize for Young Investigators in Cancer Research to spend time with such leaders.

Eight Pershing Square Sohn Prize winners attended this year’s Forum at the Alexandria Center for Life Science in New York City, among other guests which included individuals from life science foundations, academia, industry, and business. The event featured talks by executives from the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical industries.  Following the Forum, Scientific Review Council members, special guests, and Prize winners attended the Prix Galien Awards Ceremony at the American Museum of Natural History.

An exclusive President’s Dinner was held at the French Consulate the evening before the Forum, hosted by Anne Claire Legendre, Consul General of France in New York, and P. Roy Vagelos, MD, Galien Awards Committee Chairman. Five prize winners were seated at this special dinner, which enabled them to make unique connections with individuals from a variety of sectors.

Invitations to the Prix Galien events annually is one of the benefits the Pershing Square Sohn Cancer Research Alliance offers its grantees, as part of the Alliance’s mission to help bridge the gap between academia and industry in accelerating cures and treatments for cancer.
